Shawn, a native Virginian, was raised in Virginia's historic Northern Neck in the small town of Village. He attended Richmond County Public Schools from Kindergarten through graduation. His parents, who did not have the opportunity to go to college, encouraged all of their four children to pursue higher education. All four of their children attended and graduated from universities in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Shawn became a Northern Virginia resident in the early 1990s when he attended George Mason University in Fairfax. He received Bachelor of Arts degrees in both English and Speech Communications from Mason. In addition, he holds a Masters Degree in Education and a certificate in Educational Leadership, both from Mason. Go Patriots!
